Date of photo: 1925-1929
Photographer: Lomen Bros.
Location: Nome, Alaska
From the Lomen Family collection, accession number 66-54-239

Notes: Togo was Leonhard Seppala's lead dog in the 1925 "Serum Run" to Nome, which saved the city from a diphtheria epidemic. Although Balto, the lead dog that led another musher's team into Nome itself, received most of the credit (and a statue in New York's Central Park,) it was Togo who led by far the longest leg of the run, over 1/3 of the total distance.
